Viral Vermilion Parish calf Deux Face dies, lived 26 days
A calf that was born with two faces in Vermilion Parish, and became a viral phenomenon on social media, has died according to its owners
KAPLAN, La. (KLFY) -- A calf that was born with two faces in Vermilion Parish, and became a viral phenomenon on social media, has died according to its owners, Breaux Farms.
In a Facebook post Monday, the owners posted what it said is the last update for Deux Face.
"She stopped eating over the weekend and has moved on to greener pastures today," the post read. "She lived 26 days 2/28 to 3/25. She made some good progress even with the odds that were against her. We are very happy that we were able to give her the best life possible, even though it was short."
When the calf was born, she was given long odds of survival.
“We were checking on the cow that was in labor," the owners told News 10. "We found that she had her calf successfully but with a 1 in 400 million chance, she had a calf with two faces.”
A Facebook update on March 18 said Deux Face had lifted her head and was close to standing.
"Feeding well and bodly functions are good," the post read. "Vet visit today for an eye infection. Also, wellness check and everything functioning good except for being able to stand on her own. Vet gave her meds to help with the eye infection. She was super active jumping around in her sling trying to feed her this evening."
But that encouraging progress was not to last.
"It was not an easy path to take but life is not always about taking the easy path," the final update said. "We would like to thank everyone for the kind words, thoughts, and prayers, it definitely helped to keep us going through the tough times. She will live on forever in our hearts."
