BRENTWOOD — Four East Bay residents were in county jail after their arrests in connection with a theft investigation where suspects fled from police after backing into an occupied patrol car Sunday morning, authorities said Monday.
At 11:45 a.m., police responded to the Ulta Beauty store at the Streets of Brentwood shopping center, 2465 Sand Creek Rd., for a theft report. There, officers learned that three women had gotten into a Nissan Murano crossover sport-utility vehicle and driven off toward Lone Tree Way after leaving the store with about $10,000 worth of items, Brentwood police said.
Moments later, an officer found the Nissan at Shady Willow Lane and Lone Tree Way and tried to stop it, but its driver struck the officer’s patrol car before fleeing.
Soon after, officers found the Nissan abandoned in a field off Slatten Ranch Road, and Antioch and Oakley police joined Brentwood officers in setting up a perimeter nearby.
Three women, identified as Keilaysha Usher, 24, of Oakland; Talmika Bates, 24, of Hayward; and Ramiah Armstrong, 22, of Richmond, were detained and arrested, while a man, Adrian Benton Jr., 21, of Richmond, who tried to pick them up and aid their escape, was taken into custody.
All were being booked into Martinez county jail, police said.
