The chase happened about 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday.

LAFAYETTE — Two people suspected in the robbery of a fast-food restaurant tried to race away with a 7-year-old boy in the car from officers trying to pull them over and later crashed into another car, authorities said.

All of it happened about 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a statement from Lafayette police. The department contracts with the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the the other car went by ambulance to a hospital as a precaution. The boy and the two suspects were not injured.

Officers arrested a 24-year-old Oakland resident and a 39-year-old Sacramento resident on suspicion of robbery, felony evasion and child endangerment, police said. Both had multiple warrants out for their arrest, police said. The Sacramento resident remained in the Contra Costa County jail Friday in lieu of $410,000 bail, while the other suspect was in custody without bail.

The 7-year-old in the back was the child of the driver. Authorities did not specify which of the two was driving. They also did not say who took over for the welfare of the child.

Police said officers responded to the 3500 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard for a report of an armed robbery at a fast-food restaurant and then identified the suspect vehicle as one involved in previous robberies earlier Wednesday in Solano and Marin counties.

Officers located the vehicle going west on state Highway 24. Police said it sped up and that the officer pursued it on Camino Pablo going toward El Sobrante. While on Camino Pablo, the suspect vehicle skidded and hit a vehicle in the other lane, police said.
