Rain will return tonight, Tuesday to the Bay Area, but sunshine is not far behind

National Weather Service forecasts 'unsettled pattern' through midweek

After a brief break in the clouds, rainy weather is set to return Sunday night to the Bay Area  — but sunny days are around the corner.

The National Weather Service is calling for an “unsettled pattern” through midweek, with rainfall expected across the Bay Area Sunday night and another chance of rain Tuesday morning.

Rain totals are expected to be far below the numbers posted by recent storms, with 0.1 inches of rain forecast for San Jose, along with up to .15 inches in San Francisco and Oakland. The greatest impacts of the system will come to the North Bay, where Santa Rosa could receive as much as half an inch of rain.

“Sonoma County is going to get the worst of it, but then the front will fall apart,” said Nicole Sarment, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “It will be just scattered rain showers down through the rest of the Bay Area.”

Drivers are advised to take it slow on their commutes and watch out for wet roads. The outlook will change later in the week, however, with sunny days and temperatures reaching into the 70s beginning Wednesday and Thursday.

“At that point, we’re looking at warm and dry,” Sarment said.
