Driver wounded in weekend freeway shooting on Bay Bridge
The shooting happened Saturday night.
SAN FRANCISCO — A driver on the Bay Bridge suffered a gunshot wound Saturday night after gunfire erupted on the bridge, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officers were notified about 8:20 p.m. that a shooting happened on eastbound Interstate 80 near Yerba Buena Island on the San Francisco side of the bridge, according to a statement from the CHP. The driver’s injuries were not life-threatening, and he went by ambulance to a hospital.
The CHP said a vehicle pulled up alongside the driver and shot at it more than once. One bullet hit the driver, according to the agency.
The driver stopped in the far right lane of the bridge and called 911 after the shooting.
The CHP closed four lanes of eastbound I-80 for approximately two hours to investigate the scene and process it for evidence. Authorities did not release any information about the vehicle used in the shooting.
The CHP has asked anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to call the agency’s tip-line at 707-917-4491.
