Suspect in Bay Area freeway shooting arrested by CHP

The CHP said the shooting happened Sunday about 3:20 p.m.

A man suspected of firing a gun on a freeway was arrested with a loaded Glock in the vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.

The shooting happened Sunday about 3:20 p.m. on westbound Interstate 80 near the Maritime Street exit. No injuries were reported.

According to a CHP statement, a witness described seeing a shot fired from a beige older GMC Yukon. CHP officers spotted the Yukon as it traveled west across the Bay Bridge and coordinated with with other officers to stop the car after it exited I-280 at Alemany Street.

The CHP said the driver matched the witness’s description, and that officers made the arrest without any incident.

Officers found the loaded Glock with an extended magazine inside the Yukon, the CHP said.

As the investigation continues, the CHP said it is seeking anyone else who may have been witness to the shooting or driven by the scene around the time of it. They urged anyone who may know something to call the CHP’s Oakland area office at 510-457-2875.
