Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko 10th August 2018 visited some of the grabbed county facilities and vowed that the County Government will reclaim them.
Speaking to the media at the grounds of the grabbed Gigiri fire station, the Governor assured the business community that has leased the grabbed facilities that the county will be humane adding, " we will not damage or destroy your properties, we want the handover to be seamless".
The County Government is also working in collaboration with the National Government in reclaiming grabbed riparian land in the city.
Terming the vice unacceptable, the Governor said that the ongoing demolitions will continue in earnest to ensure all grabbed public and riparian land are reclaimed.
He added, " The law will be applied equally. Every land that has been grabbed will be reverted to the rightful owner, the public. It does not matter how well you are connected."
The Governor named the proposed land for Gigiri and Ruaraka fire stations as among the grabbed public utilities. Others facilities are Highridge Hospital in Parklands, Pumwani Hospital expansion structures, Eastleigh county market, New Muthaiga Thingiri Ridge county dispensary and nursery school and Mwariro county market.
Governor Sonko assures an entrepreneur leasing the grabbed county land that they will be treated fairly before the demolition commence.
Also in the list are, Langata primary school land, St. Catherine primary school, Martin Luther primary school land, Kamukunji secondary school land, Langata secondary school land, Buru Buru girls school land and land reserved for South C market.
It is instructive to note that Governor Sonko had been in the forefront of fighting corruption and land grabbing in the city even during his tenure as the Makadara Member of Parliament and later as the senator of the city.
His unprecedented zeal in fighting corruption and the land grabbing vice in the city has made him a darling to many city residents.
Accompanying the Governor were, County Disaster Chief Officer Ms Ann Mwenda, County Land Chief Officer Mr S.G Mwangi and County Security Chief Officer Mr Tinto Kilonzi.
