Workshop for a special Committee on Agriculture. Livestock and Fisheries at Prideinn Hotel, Mombasa.

The special committee on agriculture. Livestock and fisheries and Agriculture sector senior staff held a workshop at Prideinn Hotel, Mombasa.
The members were taken through the previous and planned sector projects for the financial year 2018/2019.
Some of the planned projects are; installation of 5 greenhouses and water tanks,installation of 8 irrigation drip kits in institutions,rehabilitation of dog pond,construction of 20 fish ponds,installation of 11fish tanks, establishment of one tree nursery, construct  animal holding ground,establishment of 500 multistorey gardening units among many other planned projects for the financial year 2018/2019.

The sector has previously installed 32 green houses in 17 institutions and 15 groups, installed 8 poultry units, installed 5 milk dispensers, rehabilitated 5 fish ponds, excavated 8 fish ponds and installed 14 fish tanks for the youth.

These projects are meant to create employment, improve on food security and nutrition.
The team also deliberated on food systems and Nairobi  Food Market Information System (NFMIS) aimed at improving, efficiency in the Nairobi Food System hence bringing down the cost of food to make it affordable for all as well as allow for checks on food safety. The team called for urgent measures in staffing to ensure the food safety is not compromised.

While addressing the team,the CEC for Food,Agriculture and Forestry Arch. Peter Wachira  urged  the committee members to help the sector ensure  the sustainability of the installed projects. Arch. Wachira said the main agenda of the county government is to bring down the cost of food in the city.
" His Excellency the Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko has big plans in ensuring safe and affordable food for the city dwellers." Said Arch. Wachira.
