2 people injured after explosion, fire in south Columbus
COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Two people were injured Tuesday morning in a mobile home explosion and fire in southern Franklin County.
According to the Columbus Division of Fire, firefighters responded to a home on Janice Marie Boulevard in the Enchanted Acres mobile home park at about 6:40 a.m.
Jo Anne Walter, who has lived in the community for about 10 years, said the explosion shook her home.
“I thought it was in my back yard,” Walter said. “It was BOOM and… laying in bed, I felt it.”
Carolyn Harrison said when she first looked out, she couldn’t tell how many homes were on fire.
“It was totally engulfed,” Harrison said. “I mean nothing but fire. We got dressed and came over here and it just kept exploding.”
Firefighters said a man and a woman were injured and transported to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center which houses an adult burn center.
Their conditions were listed as critical at the time of transport.
“It’s devastating,” Walter said. “I feel like crying for the people even though I don’t know them. They’re my neighbors.”
Columbia Gas crews spent the day checking gas lines throughout the mobile home park. A spokesman said they found no issues with the gas lines leading up to the home.
Investigators will be looking at sources of gas inside the home and any other possible explanations for the explosion.
