Funnily enough, I was the opposite. As that ball came in it never occurred to me it was offside because I felt he was on - albeit behind the goal isn't a great place to make a judgement from.
Sometimes you just know straight away that it must be offside but that one I always felt the defender went past him with the ball already in flight.
