Player Recruitment (8 replies)
Of courses finances are relative, if you have a £100,000,000 budget, you'll get £100,000,000 players. If it's just £1,000,000...well you get my point. However, there are two points that need to be addressed. For years we have been crying out for someone who can put their foot on the ball, look up and pick out a pass, generally run things from the middle. Last season we thought we had that in Adam Clayton and/or San Jose. Fast forward a month and it was clear that their recruitment was flawed at best.
This season we bring in Woods, who after again initially impressing, is subsequently proving to be another dud.
So who has identified these players to be what we need?
We have lacked genuine pace in the team for almost a decade and this has simply not been addressed in any way, shape or form. Every team in the country has more pace than us and even our most rapid can't keep up. In the modern game you need speed.
Who has not identified that this is necessary?
Who thought it would be a good idea to bring in all of the Spanish lads and tie ourselves up with a bit part team from that country? Bar Sanchez and to a lesser extent Villaba (can't really blame anyone for his missus not liking it over here), not one of them have come remotely close to making the grade over here and have proven themselves to be a waste of a squad space and wage.
Castillo...clearly not rated by LB and from what posters on here have said with good reason.
Chuks...jury out but from what a lot say is league one at best.
Halilovic...brought in injured. Played. Got injured again. Left. Cost a relative fortune.
Leko...not good enough, waste of a £1,000,000
Cosgrove...Nowhere near good enough. Waste of £2,000,000,000
McEachran...Made of glass
Crowley...2 goals in 45 games
I could go on and I am sure there a few I have missed.
I know we are shopping at the bottom end of the market, but so are 75% of the rest of the teams outside of the Premier League and whoever has been in charge of player recruitment has either missed a trick or has brought poorly the vast, vast majority of the time and it comes to something that the best players we have this season do not belong to us and will be returning to their parent clubs at the end of the season or in January.
