According to a report in Corriere di Bologna (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a summer move for Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori, having been impressed with the centre-back’s displays over recent weeks.
Tottenham strengthened their backline with the signing of Radu Dragusin from Genoa in January but the Romanian is not the only Serie A centre-back the club allegedly had their eye on, with Calafiori also thought to be on the Lilywhites’ radar.
The 21-year-old has been a revelation since his switch from Basel to Bologna last summer and it has been reported by various sources over recent weeks that Ange Postecoglou’s men are watching him closely (Fabrizio Romano – GiveMeSport).
Tottenham scouts impressed with Calafiori
Corriere di Bologna have now revealed that Spurs have sent scouts to Italy to watch Calafiori in the ‘last few matches’, with their representatives sending back ‘profoundly positive’ reports back to London about the player.
The outlet says that Tottenham are far from the only club eyeing the Italy Under-21 international, with AC Milan, Napoli and Juventus also said to be in the mix.
The publication adds that the young centre-back will be allowed to leave the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium for a fee of around €30m (£25.6m) next summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham will be watching a number of players across Europe and with Paratici still working as a consultant for the club, it is not surprising the club are keeping track of the best young talents from Serie A.
However, it is too early to make any predictions on which centre-backs Spurs will pursue next summer as it could depend on how Radu Dragusin performs as well as on whether Postecoglou believes Ashley Phillips is already for a first-team role next season.
