Tottenham Hotspur are lucky enough to have two players in the mix when it comes to the Golden Boot race this season, with both Heung-min Son and Richarlison on double figures for the year. Here’s how they compare to the other strikers in the league and a prediction of how many goals they may end up with.
When Spurs sold Harry Kane in the summer, many expected the Lilywhites to have a great goalscoring void in the side this term. The fact that Ange Postecoglou did not sign a new striker hardly helped allay those fears.
However, Heung-min Son has been back to his best, providing goals and assists, while Richarlison has finally found his form in a Spurs shirt and has enjoyed quite the purple patch in 2024.
Golden Boot Race 2023/24
Here’s how Son and Richarlison compare to the other prolific attackers in the Premier League this season, and how many goals they might end up on.
Son currently has 12 league goals to his name, and six assists too (Transfermarkt). That’s already better than last year’s haul of 10 league goals, but it would take something special for him to match his 2021/22 tally of 23 goals.
Tottenham have some big games coming up against their top-six rivals, and there’s nothing the Spurs skipper loves more than turning up for the occasion. I predict Son will bag another seven goals this term, taking his total to 19 for the season.
Richarlison has 10 goals and three assists on his tally for this year. The Brazilian has gone two games without a goal now, after scoring nine in eight games previously. He will still contribute in the final stages of the season, though, and should register another six goals to take his total to 16 for the campaign.
Unfortunately, neither of those returns will be enough to secure the Golden Boot this year. Erling Haaland already has 17 goals, and Manchester City are now entering their peak period, so he will likely take the award with a probable return of 25 goals (at least).
Behind Haaland, we have Mo Salah on 15 goals, Dominic Solanke, Jarrod Bowen, and Ollie Watkins on 14 apiece, and Bukayo Saka on 13 goals. Further down, behind Son and level with Richarlison, there’s Cole Palmer, Hwang Hee-chan, and Alexander Isaak on 10 goals each.
