Despite the fact Mauricio Pochettino is keen to keep Conor Gallagher at the club, it is thought Chelsea will go against his wishes and try to sell the midfielder this summer in an attempt to satisfy Financial Fair Play regulations.
Conor Gallagher has been linked with a move away from Chelsea for around a year now, with Spurs thought to be very interested in bringing the 24-year-old to North London.
With Chelsea spending big over the last couple of years, it is believed the Blues need to make a profit from player sales in the summer to stay on the right side of FFP, and that Gallagher could be the player sacrificed to make that happen (Football Insider).
With a little over a year left on his current contract, Chelsea may wish to cash in on their academy graduate, even though Gallagher himself believes the ‘plan’ is for him to sign a new deal (Sky Sports). Very little progress has been made in that area, though, and various clubs are keeping tabs on the situation (Daily Mail).
Earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano claimed Chelsea were undecided as to what to do with Gallagher at the end of the season, and that Spurs were still extremely tuned in to the situation.
Chelsea may sell Gallagher against Pochettino’s wishes
Now, the latest from sources at Football Insider claims Chelsea are willing to ignore the wishes of their manager, Mauricio Pochettino, and sell Gallagher.
It is thought Chelsea’s intentions are seen as a “boost” for Tottenham, as Gallagher may be “forced” to leave his club in the summer.
While Pochettino “rates [Gallagher] highly,” the “financial issues” at Chelsea are forcing the hand as a Gallagher sale would be pure profit for Todd Boehly’s club.
Spurs Web Opinion
I can see this situation either turning really sour, with Chelsea fans getting very upset if Gallagher does not remain at the club. It would be especially tense if he signed for Spurs, but hopefully, we can get a new, top quality player AND annoy the Chelsea fans at the same time.
