Britain’s richest gypsy invests in guard dogs after thieves steal £20,000 of handbags and jackets from £6million mansion
BRITAIN’S richest gypsy has invested in guard dogs after thieves stole more than £20,000 of handbags and jackets.
Alfie Best’s two cane corsi — an Italian breed of mastiff with a more powerful bite than a lion — now patrol the grounds of his £6million mansion.
Alfie, 53, worth £740million, was burgled last summer and reckons thieves kept watch of his social media accounts to see when he left his Surrey home.
He told The Sun: “We all make silly mistakes.
“These people watch your social media, and if you post that you are away then they will see that as an opportunity.
“My dogs are extreme protection dogs. They are perfectly safe but you wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of them.”
Alfie added: “My wife lost valuable Chanel and Versace bags and D&D jackets were taken in the burglary.
“They did so much damage to get in smashing their through doors and windows it cost thousands to fix.
“My dogs are beautiful animals, their temperament is fantastic.
“They are patrolling the grounds day and night, they will notice if anything is wrong.
“This is the type of protection we have put in place, we also have vehicle recognition and facial recognition cameras but it is not enough, it’s not something you can take a chance with.”
The self-made millionaire was brought up living in a caravan on a lay-by in Lutterworth, Leicestershire and left school to sell cars and mobile phones.
He made his first million after starting a mobile phone shop business in London.
