I totally transformed my garden on a budget using string & talcum powder – everyone’s so impressed
A BUDGETING mum has shown there’s no need to splash the cash on a fantastic garden upgrade.
TikTok user Rhiannon has totally transformed her garden with just a ball of string and a tub of talcum powder.
Posting to her social media account Rhiannon’s Garden, the DIY fan updated her followers on her progress so far.
She captioned her post: “Doing up my garden episode 14 – doing my border.”
The video offers viewers a bird’s eye view of Rhiannon’s garden, which boasts a small patio and a rectangular lawn with a shed at the bottom.
Rhiannon uses a time lapse to show off her progress at speed.
First, she heads to the shed to retrieve her digging tools and narrates as she goes.
“It’s time to start the border,” she said. “Using string and a bit of talcum powder, I made a circle and cut it out.”
The clip shows Rhiannon in her black gardening gear creating the circular shape with her string and talc, before tackling the hard graft.
She uses her giant spade to dig around the template and her circular lawn takes shape.
“I decided that after going upstairs for a bird’s eye view, the border wasn’t quite big enough,” she said.
“So I went back downstairs and made the circle a little bit smaller.”
The time lapse continues, showing Rhiannon’s hard graft as she cuts away at her border and clears the excess grass and mud from her design.
“It’s exhausting work,” she admitted. “Especially carrying all the mud right to the back of the garden.”
Within hours (or seconds for viewers), Rhiannon had created a perfect curved lawn with a neat border ready to host her pretty plants.
“Pretty pleased with this, I think it’s really tidy,” she said.
She then asked her followers: “What do you think?”
Almost 700 people replied to her video, sharing their praise on a job well done.
“I’m a professional gardener and I think you did brilliantly,” replied one user. “Looking forward to seeing the next instalment.”
A second said: “Well done, your hard work paid off.”
And a third agreed: “Great job, mamma.”
Rhiannon boasts an impressive 12,000 followers and has amassed almost 140,000 likes on her DIY gardening videos.
While she’s happy getting her hands dirty and enjoying the results, others can’t think of anything worse.
One man replied to her clip: “I would never. Just hire someone to do that labour.”
