A MAN has been charged with murder after a rugby player was knifed to death outside a nightclub.
Jake Hill, 24, is accused of stabbing “gentle giant” Michael Allen, 32, by the venue in Bodmin, Cornwall in the early hours of April 30.
Seven other people also suffered stab wounds in the vicious attack.
They were all rushed to hospital, but six have since been discharged.
As well as the single count of murder, Hill has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He is scheduled to appear at Truro Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
In a statement, Michael’s family paid tribute to him as a “much-loved son, brother, grandson, and uncle who loved his dogs.”
Bodmin Rugby Club posted their own statement, adding: “It is with great sadness that we can now announce the passing of our player and friend Mike Allen.
“Mike came to the club earlier this season and quickly became a big part of our squad.
“His humour and kindness has left a mark on us all and we will miss him dearly.
“Our thoughts are with Mike’s family at this devastating time.
“There is a memorial set up outside the rugby club where people are welcome to come to pay their respects and lay flowers.
“Fly high brother.”
