I’m worried my 3-month-old son will be bullied for his name – I want to change it as soon as possible & people are torn
A NEW MOM has been so tortured over her name choice for her 3-month-old son that she took to an online forum seeking guidance.
She was beset with worry that her decision would lead him to be bullied later in life.
She took her dilemma to Reddit, hoping for some clarity.
But commenters to her post were torn, with some clearly in favor and others saying to steer well clear.
Her anxiety was palpable as she wrote.
“I just feel extreme regret. I feel like I’ve caused my son a century of being bullied,” she cried.
“He’s 3 months old and I’m so ready to swipe him up and give him a new ‘normal’ name.”
Then she revealed her son’s name.
” His name is Princeton. Is it honestly that bad and should I change it as soon as possible?” she asked.
Commenters were divided right down the middle.
The first one was blunt: “Change it. You want to – so do it!”
Another didn’t see what her problem was: “I don’t think Princeton is as bad as you worry it is. Could he go by his middle name? For example, if his middle name starts with a J, PJ could be cute.”
A younger commenter, with a name he detested, urged her to ditch it.
“As someone who hates their name please don’t give your child a name they’ll hate when they grow up. After all, it is them who [will] carry that name.”
This respondent begged her to change it too.
“Please remember that your son will be an adult for most of his life. I can’t imagine a grown man named Princeton who isn’t a preppy former frat bro.”
Her dilemma was not resolved by the concluding remark, who was a fan and liked it.
“Keep it! What a sweet unique name. I was born in that town. I really like the name it’s great.”
