Shocking moment fans brawl on pitch using belts as weapons moments after Napoli clinched first Serie A title in 33 YEARS
THIS is the shocking moment football fans brawled on the pitch after Napoli clinched their first Serie A title in 33 years.
Tonight’s nail-biting match ended in a draw between Udinese and Napoli – but the latter needed just a point away to seal the title.
As soon as the final whistle was blown the travelling fans stormed the pitch to celebrate.
But the scenes did turn a little out of hand when police were forced to storm the field to calm supporters down.
Shocking photos show how celebrations quickly turned into a brawl with home fans.
Snaps show several men using their belts as weapons to strike their counterparts.
Local cops in riot gear with batons were forced to stop the violent clashes by separating fans with shields.
Back in Naples thousands of fans have taken the streets to celebrate the win.
The city’s skyline has been lit up with fireworks as locals party the night away below.
Napoli‘s previous Serie A title came when Diego Maradona captained them to a second title in four seasons in 1990.
But they have eased to the crown in 2023 with five games to spare.
Their point against Udinese takes them 16 clear of second-place Lazio after 33 matches.
They have lost just three times and averaged more than two goals per game.
It is the third league title in Napoli’s history after the two Maradona won within the space of four years.
It is also the first time since 2001 that a team outside of Juventus, AC Milan or Inter Milan have been crowned Italian champions.
