Manchester City vs Leeds betting tips
As opening matches go, it doesn’t get much harder than a trip to the Etihad.
Throw into the mix the fact Manchester City are running riot against everyone with 14 victories in their last 15 matches in all competitions.
Now add that Leeds have lost four of their last five, conceding 18 goals and have a brand new boss at the helm who hasn’t managed since May 2021.
That’s the equation that faces Leeds on Saturday as they look to propel themselves away from the relegation zone with just four matches of the campaign remaining.
But Big Sam has performed miracles before, and the visitors will be hopeful that he can make an instant impact this weekend. He certainly thinks he can having declared that Pep Guardiola is not ‘ahead’ of him in terms of the Premier League’s managerial hierarchy.
Leeds are in 17th position with 30 points and only outside the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference with Newcastle, West Ham and Tottenham left to play.
There are no such concerns for City, who top the division by a point with a game in hand and look almost certain to clinch the title. Yes, it’s very much David vs Goliath on paper in Manchester on Saturday.
Hat-trick Haaland…
Erling Haaland doesn’t just want to break records, he wants to smash them. The Norwegian centre-forward broke the record for most goals in a Premier League season on Wednesday.
He scored his 35th league goal of the campaign against West Ham to move past Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole’s previous best of 34.
The all-time single-season English goalscoring record is the 63 goals Everton’s Dixie Dean managed in 1927-28, and your just know Haaland will have that in his sights.
He’s netted 18 goals in his last 11 matches including two braces, a hat-trick and five against RB Leipzig. He scored twice in the reverse fixture at Elland Road, and should fill his boots against a side who’ve conceded 4+ goals in four of their last seven games.
Low block…
Sam Allardyce isn’t going to mess around here. Everyone behind the ball, protecting the penalty area and forcing their opponents to shoot from distance.
That’s the plan, whether it will come to fruition is an entirely different story. It does mean, however, that City could oblige with more efforts from distance.
Rodri is one of those who could potentially benefit, and he’s not shy of shooting. The midfielder has had the third most attempts at goal of any City player in the Premier League this season.
He’s has 49 efforts on goal behind only Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne. We think he could be heavily in the mix this weekend and 15/2 for him to have at least two shots on target looks a good price.
Big price…
Given everything said above, Erling Haaland at 18/1 to score from outside the penalty area looks a massive price.
The striker could easily find himself dropping deeper to get involved with Leeds expected to crowd the 18-yard box. The visitors will invite shots from distance and Haaland may just find himself in a position to have a crack.
Though nearly all of his goals have come inside the area, he’s certainly capable of firing in an eye-catching effort.
