Woman killed and man fighting for his life with two more injured in Drayton Bassett crash ‘chaos’
A WOMAN has been killed and one man is fighting for his life after a horrific multiple-vehicle crash.
The fatal collision happened yesterday, just after 11pm on the A4091 in Drayton Bassett, near Tamworth.
The woman who tragically lost her life, was driving one of the cars involved.
Paramedics and emergency services pronounced her dead at the scene despite their best efforts to save her.
A man who was behind the wheel of a second car is now fighting for his life in critical condition at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
Another two people, a man and woman, were passengers in both vehicles and also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
An eyewitness told BirminghamLive: “It looked like chaos.
“The road was completely blocked and the night sky was lit up with blue flashing lights with police and fire engines rushing to the scene.
“I could see one car crushed at the front.
“Cars were being turned around and sent in the opposite direction and the road was completely filled with emergency vehicles.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to the A4091 in Drayton Bassett at 11.03pm and sent three ambulances, two paramedic officers, a trauma doctor and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Critical Care Car to the scene.
“On arrival, we discovered two cars that had suffered significant damage in the incident and a total of four patients.
“The driver of one of the cars, a woman, was found to have suffered serious injuries in the collision.
“Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene.
“The driver of the second car, a man, was found to be in a critical condition and received specialist trauma care at the scene before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
“A further man and woman, passengers from the two cars, were treated for serious injuries before being to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham and University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, respectively.”
