We swapped from Morrison’s to Lidl for our weekly shop to see how much it would cost – here’s everything we got
A SAVVY mum has revealed what happened when she swapped her weekly food shop from Morrisons to Lidl – and people have been left seriously impressed by how much she got for her money.
Evangeline Olualu suggested that she’d noticed prices in Morrisons slowly creeping up, and so decided to give the German supermarket a shot for this week’s food shop for her family of four.
She was left seriously impressed – not only by the price of essentials but also by the long sell-by dates on fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat.
Known online as @evangelineolualu, the mum-of-two regularly shares parenting hacks and money-saving tips with her 285,400 followers.
In a new TikTok reel, she said: “Come and do the food shop with us for a family of four, and today we went to Lidl.
“We did a huge shop guys, so wait until the end of the video to see how much it costs.
“Recently we’ve been shopping at Morrisons and honestly, I feel like it’s gone so expensive.
“I bought a pack of chicken nuggets from there from Birds Eye and it cost me £6. How outrageous is that and it was like 12 in there?
“We used to shop at Lidl all the time and I don’t know why we stopped coming here cause I literally love it.
“I am definitely a Lidl over an Aldi girl, for sure.
“I definitely prefer the fruit in Lidl over Aldi. When I’ve brought from Aldi before, the fruit and veg goes off so so quick whereas from Lidl it seems to last us quite a while.
“Of course, we are also shopping for two toddlers so we need a good snack selection.
“I feel like they’ve got a nice selection of yogurts that are so so cheap and they taste really nice as well.
“Also the breakfast bars and the cereals are amazing.
“Something we did notice as well when we were walking around is everything had such a good sell-by date.
“We do freeze a lot of our meats if we’re not using them straight away but the things like the yogurts and the veg and the ham that all had a really good sell-by date on them.”
During the two-minute video, Evangeline shared a glimpse at everything she picked up, including a range of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, and a load of nappies for her two daughters.
She continued: “We did such a big food shop today. We did essentials, we did meats, snacks, cereals, fridge stuff, freezer stuff.
“The cupboards are literally full to the brim, and I feel like we didn’t break the bank.
“If we did this shop at Morrisons, I’m probably gonna say it’s nearing around £100 more for sure.
“Today we filled seven bags of shopping to the brim like they were bursting. One of the bags broke.
“And on top of that, we also got kitchen roll, a pack of six wipes, two packs of pull-ups for Aleiah, and a jumbo pack of nappies for Noel.
“Here is everything laid out so that you can see it. We got loads of fresh fruit and veg, we got a lot of meat as well.
“Lots of snacks for the girls. Things for meal prepping, protein yogurts, and all of this priced up at £209.48.
“Definitely way cheaper than Morrisons.”
Her huge supermarket haul attracted plenty of attention online, gaining more than 19,500 likes and 274,500 followers.
In the comments, TikTokkers shared their reactions, with one writing: “Wow that’s brilliant.”
“I find Morrisons so expensive now too. I’ve stopped going,” agreed another.
A third added: “Honestly our weekly shops at Asda have been £170 a week and I said to Dan this week let’s go back to Lidl.”
The mum-of-two replied: “Yeah Asda and Morrisons have shot up in price it’s a joke.”
Someone else put: “£6 for nuggets is crazyyy.”
