I’m a cook & I made five meals for five people for under £20 from Asda… plus there’s loads spare too
A MUM has revealed the five easy recipes she uses to make meals for her family of five… with loads of leftovers, too.
Charlotte started her social media clip by showing the ingredients she picked up all stacked on her kitchen counter.
She appeared to have bought carrots, red onions, potatoes, coconut milk, cans of chopped tomatoes, red lentils, pies, corn cobs, garlic baguettes and more.
“Here’s how to feed your family of five, five meals for less than £20!” she said before getting stuck in.
She then took her first lot of ingredients and put them on the counter as she showed a pack of pasta, a stock cube, oregano, one white onion, eight pork sausages, tomato puree, a can of chopped tomatoes, garlic cloves and Chipotle paste.
“The first meal of the week is sausage pasta, which came in at £2.21 and made way more than five portions,” she said as she showed off the end result.
She then shared the ingredients of the second meal, which was red lentil dahl and consisted of long grain rice, garam masala, ground coriander, turmeric powder, smoked paprika, red lentils, ginger pasta, coconut oil, coconut milk, one stock cube, garlic cloves, two white onions and a can of chopped tomatoes.
“Next up, we have red lentil dahl, which is served up with rice and pita bread and the price of that was £2.21,” she said. “And this made loads”.
She continued: “The next meal was supposed to be kebabs, but I ran out of kebab sticks. So, it became a sausage tray bake served with pita bread and lettuce. This cost £2.67”.
For this meal, all she used was a head of lettuce, one red bell pepper, one red onion, a pack of eight pork sausages and pita bread.
The fourth meal on the list was pie and mash with vegetables.
Laying out the ingredients, she used five carrots, a bag of green beans, some white potatoes and a pack of four minced beef and onion pies.
“The price of that was £2.84 pence,” she said as she poured gravy over the top of the meal. “And it was absolutely delicious, the kids loved it.”
“Finally, we had pork steaks with wedges and corn, this was the most expensive meal of the week at £5.55. But we still came in well under budget.”
She cooked potato wedges, green beans, corn cobs and pork steaks for this meal.
“Total spends.. £15.39! Well under budget,” she wrote over this as the TikTok video came to an end. In the caption, she added: “5 meals for under £20! Ingredients all from @Asda, largely Asda essentials!”
People were left impressed and said they would have to try the recipes out for themselves.
“Meals look so good great variety will definitely try these meals,” [sic] one person wrote.
Another said: “Well done mama,” followed by a bicep curl emoji and a red heart emoji.
While a third added: “Thank you so much for taking the time to share this !! Everything looks lovely. It’s so hard to think of things to cook and keep an eye on the cost. X”.
