I’m a fit grandma at 66 – people say that older women are sexless and powerless but I have no expiration date
A GRANDMOTHER has called out haters who say that older women are powerless while showing off her rigorous fitness routine.
The over-65-year-old fitness influencer took to social media to claim that ageist comments and ideals are everywhere.
Sheila (@grandma_moves) stressed in a recent post on Instagram that those who believe they are too old to be active must change their mindset to thrive.
“What if we perceived aging as a time of being active and healthy just the same as any other age group?” Sheila asked her thousands of followers on the platform.
“This change of mindset can help older people flourish, have value and remain independent.”
The fit grandma wrote these thoughts alongside a video of herself performing a rope-based workout, enhancing mobility and strength across her entire body.
She could be seen quickly and efficiently moving the rope in her pink workout tank top and gray-patterned leggings.
Along with encouraging older fitness enthusiasts to change their mindsets, Sheila included the “six myths about old age” from American activist Maggie Kuhn in her post.
They included viewing old age as a “disease” and that elderly people are “mindless, sexless, useless, powerless, and all alike.”
In the same vein, Shelia argued that there’s no “expiration date” for older individuals who want a healthy and active lifestyle.
“If we are older, we need to remember we have no expiration date, that we are still contributors to society and we can be strong, healthy and live our life with joy, doing the things we love,” the grandma wrote.
“And to that I say, h**l yeah! How about you?”
Fans quickly flooded the comments section on the post in support of the fitness influencer’s viewpoint.
“I love your Reels, and this caption is sooo good! Thank you for inspiring us,” one person wrote.
“I’m almost 58 and still not ready to follow the narrative of ‘from 60 on, you are a senior and should slow down.'”
Another added, “You are the best Sheila! There are some odd people around but you are not one of them! You are supportive, encouraging and amazing.”
Others were impressed with the fit grandma’s rope exercises, which they referred to as “rope flows.”
“I just love the rope flows. Aging is a mindset,” a fan commented.
“I feel younger now than I did in my 40s. Staying active is key.”
Sheila’s page holds several other posts that feature advice on staying fit and exercises viewers in a similar age range can perform to feel powerful instead of powerless.
Not to mention, she’s not the only fit grandma getting a lot of attention online.
DON’T MESS WITH GRANDMA
As The U.S. Sun previously reported, bodybuilding grandmother Marlene Flowers, 66, has slammed haters who say there’s “no point” to her workouts.
Marlene warned her over 900,000 followers that no matter what they do, someone will be around to try and put them down.
“You can let them,” she said.
“Or you can see it as just another obstacle and overcome it.”
The rude commenter had written, “you’ll be dead in a couple of years there is no point” on a previous post the grandma had made.
Additionally, super-fit grandma Andrea Sunshine (@andrea__sunshinee) spends hours at the gym each week and claims that she can still charm men half her age.
“There’s a type of fetish about mature and muscular women for young men,” Andrea explained to Daily Star.
The fit grandma says she likes the attention but also enjoys fitness for the confidence and mood improvement it offers.
