I gave my garden a mega glow up on a budget – I did the fence on the cheap and people can’t believe it’s the same space
A WOMAN has revealed that she gave her plain garden the ultimate glow up, whilst on a budget.
The DIY fan explained that she had a lot of old shrubs in her 1930s garden and was advised by a tree surgeon to remove them.
Once she removed the shrubs, she realised that the fence behind them wasn’t to her taste, so she got to work on making her own.
Posting on TikTok under the username @firststepontheladder, the homeowner documented the process of making her very own slatted fence.
The TikToker said: “We had lots of old shrubs we were advised to remove.
“The fence behind them wasn’t to our taste.
“We also had to increase the height of it as a planning condition.
“But we didn’t have the money for a new fence.
“So we bought some roofing battens.
“We used a 10mm spacer to get the look we wanted.
“We continued it along the entire fence.
“Then our other neighbour wanted to do the same thing, so we removed that fence and added the battens on either side.
“It’s finished the garden for a fraction of the cost.
“We used the off-cuts in the play area and made planters, a bench and an outdoor kitchen out of them too.
“Cheers to have a go at something you didn’t think you could.”
At the end of the clip, the woman gave her followers a close-up look at her finished garden – complete with a pergola, play area and even a log burner.
The social media user later confirmed: “It was all DIY apart from the patio and the raised beds.”
The TikToker also explained: “We did it in stages but it was around £850 for the battens and posts.
“We bought all the wood from a local wood merchant as it worked out cheaper that way.”
The clip has clearly impressed many, as it has quickly amassed 60,700 views.
It has 1,131 likes, 34 comments and 160 shares.
Social media users were left open-mouthed at the fence tutorial and were eager to reflect this in the comments.
