Dog owners are warned beloved pets could choke on popular pet food brands as plastic found in multipack cans
DOG owners have been warned their beloved pets could choke on a popular pet food as plastic is found in multi-pack cans.
Dog food brand Lily’s Kitchen has recalled cans of Fishy Fish Pie and its Chicken and Turkey Casserole.
The Fishy Fish Pie 400g can – sold as part of the Grain Free Wet Adult Dog Multipack 24x400g cans – will be removed from shelves.
As will the Chicken and Turkey Casserole 400g can – part of the Classic Wet Adult Multipack 24x400g cans.
The findings stoked fears that pooches could choke on the fragments.
The company’s products are stocked at a number of retailers including Pets at Home, Wilko and Tesco.
It is unknown how long the products may have contained the plastic.
A Food Standards Agency spokesman warned: “The possible presence of plastic makes the products unsafe to eat for your pets and presents a potential choking hazard.”
Customers who bought the cans have been urged not to feed it to their dogs.
They can claim a full refund without a receipt.
A spokesman said: “As a precaution if you have a multipack that contains any of the affected recipes, we ask you not to feed them to your pet and instead contact Lily’s Kitchen for a full refund (with or without a receipt) and they will arrange collection of the item from you.”
It comes after a popular retailer issued an urgent recall on a kids essential over fears it could cause them to choke.
Elsewhere, shoppers are being warned not to eat certain desserts that have been recalled over fears they contain Listeria – a bacteria which can lead to Listeriosis – a rare debilitating infection.
