Moment schoolboy, 11, is Tasered by police during blade stand-off at holiday park
A LAD aged 11 was Tasered by cops during a blade stand-off at a holiday park, we can reveal.
Video footage shared with the Scottish Sun shows the schoolboy brandishing a knife before he’s zapped with the 50,000-volt stun gun at Craig Tara holiday park, on the outskirts of Ayr.
The disturbing incident is now being probed by police watchdogs.
It’s believed he could be the youngest person ever to be shot with a Taser by Scots cops.
A stunned eyewitness said: “He was screaming in agony.”
They described how the boy went into “panic mode” moments before he was blasted by cops.
Officers were called to the Haven resort late on March 22 amid reports of a boy brandishing a blade.
Footage shows five officers surrounding the child as he appears to wave the weapon at them.
The lad is backed into a corner around the bin area before two laser targets are shone onto his chest.
He repeatedly swears at the police and also seems to be recording the rammy on his own phone.
One officer then approaches him holding the Taser — usually only deployed when there’s an immediate threat of violence — before delivering a powerful electric shock.
The boy screams in pain and is seen writhing on the grass.
The eyewitness said: “The boy was brandishing a knife and was repeatedly asked to drop it.
“Officers were bearing down on him and it seemed like he was in panic mode. Even though the Taser was aimed at him it was still disturbing when it was actually fired.
“The lad was badly shaken up and screaming out in pain and shock.”
Police Scotland confirmed a Tasser was discharged, adding they’ve reported the incident to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.
The shocking incident saw a children’s charity boss urge police to stop using stun guns on youngsters.
Joanne Smith, of NSPCC Scotland, said using stun guns on kids breaches their rights and can cause “physical and psychological harm”.
She described the use of the weapon in Scotland as “extremely concerning”.
She added: “Tasering under-18s is in opposition to international children’s rights standards.
“They pose a serious risk of physical and psychological harm.
“We understand police have a duty of care to keep the public safe but we urge them to revise the practice of using Tasers on under-18s and to look at other effective ways to manage pressurised incidents involving children and young people.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “This incident was resolved with no serious injuries. There was no risk to the wider public.”
We previously told how the number of Taser-trained Scots cops is set to quadruple from around 520 to 2,000 to counter a sharp rise in attacks on officers.
