We wanted to upgrade our garden but didn’t have a huge budget so only changed one part – it looks so different
A PAIR has revealed how they totally transformed their garden with one fairly simple DIY – and it probably saved them thousands.
Stephanie took to TikTok to share how she and her partner gave her fence a budget glow-up by creating her own on-trend panelling to sit in front.
Known online as @thecheshiregreyhome_, the Cheshire-based content creator regularly shares interior design and DIY tips with her 9,300 followers.
In a new reel, she said: “FENCES… one of our lockdown projects.
“Would definitely have been easier with a chop saw but we just had to make do!”
During the 33-second video, Stephanie runs through how they gave their fence a glow up on the cheap using C16 treated timber 2 x 4” panels, measuring in at 4.8m.
Alongside a photo of her partner holding a mallet, she added: “Sunk in anchor posts.”
“Added 7 foot 4 x 4 posts into each anchor.
“Created a rebate for the corner post.
“Use two spacers to create 20mm gaps.
“Marked each piece of wood for cutting with a set square.
“Used a nail gun attachment on a compressor to secure.”
Finally, the pair finished off the budget makeover by adding some white and cream coloured pebbles around the base of their DIY fence, as well as some green plants and small trees.
Shoppers can pick up similar timber planks from various retailers, including Wickes, with prices starting from as little as £3.
Fans loved the crafty idea, with their step-by-step guide gaining more than 1,100 likes and 98,100 views.
In the comments, TikTokkers shared their reactions, with one writing: “Lovely job and real grass!!! I applaud you!!!”
“I’ve been obsessing about doing this for months. Looks awesome. I saw one with s/p lights behind the panels. Well done,” commented another.
A third added: “Should last forever.”
Someone else suggested: “Tip. Paint the fence in the background black, it won’t show through the slits in the new fence.”
