I bagged fish fingers on sale for 50p from a supermarket – my freezers full to the brim, I wish I had more space
A SAVVY shopper was thrilled when she spotted bargain fish fingers on the shelves of her local supermarket.
The woman was out browsing at Co-op when she came across the in-store deal where the price of the popular Birdseye food item had been slashed to just 50p.
And that wasn’t all she got her hands on during her weekly shop.
On top of the fish fingers, Co-op had also reduced their large battered fish fillets and the brand’s crispy chicken breasts in tempura batter.
The fish fillets were still a steal at 97p, while the chicken was marked up at 69p.
So it made perfect sense that the bargain hunter filled up her trolley with as much as she thought she could fit in her freezer at home.
Among her frozen food haul was 6 packets of fish fingers, 10 large fillets of fish and 8 crispy chicken breasts.
Taking a snap of all the boxes piled up on top of each other as she displayed them on her kitchen counter, the Co-op customer said she couldn’t believe her luck and told others all about the offer.
She wrote alongside it on the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK: “My bargain from the Co-op near me. I was over the moon.”
And she maintained that her only regret was that she didn’t take home more, as she would have loved to have cleared the shelf.
The lady continued: “There was still a freezer shelf full in the shop.
“Wish I had more room in my freezers.”
And it wasn’t long before fellow money-saving supermarket fans were congratulating her on her big bargain, and saying they wished they’d got so lucky.
One wrote: “Amazing! I would have done the same – my kids love fish fingers.”
A second said: “I love fish fingers, well done you.”
Meanwhile, a third added: “Wow, nice bargains. That’s a few cheap meals sorted for you.”
Others tagged family and friends and said they needed to get down to Co-op to see if they could find the deal.
And many others said they’d also taken advantage of the huge savings.
One person typed: “Must be a thing in most Co-ops.
“My husband works at Co-op and bought some home last night.”
Meanwhile, other clever social media users said they’d thought of an idea of how she could fit more in her freezer.
One wrote: “Well done. If no room for boxes, de-box them and bag them.”
Another suggested: “Take them out of the boxes and go back!”
Another Facebook user joined the conversation, as they said: “Take things out of boxes and plastic containers – makes much more room in your freezer.”
