People are only just realising what the secret buttons on McDonald’s cups are for
FAST food lovers are only just realising what the secret buttons on McDonald’s lids are for.
Fans of the popular fast food chain are having their minds blown after a brief clip was posted on the ‘Today Years Old’ page of Twitter.
The short clip appears to simply shows a finger pressing down on the various ridges around the lid of a soft drink along with the message: “POV: your mind is blown”.
Looking closer though, after the circular ridges are depressed, by pressing down on the corresponding rectangular ridge, it pops up the circular one.
The video clearly hit a nerve as it has been viewed around 1.2 million times, picking up more than 4,400 likes and dozens of comments.
One commentator simply wrote: “What?”
Another person said: “Never knew this.”
While a third added: “Wait… WHAT?!?!?!”
It’s not the first time McDonald’s fans have been left scratching their heads trying to work out what the buttons signify, if anything.
In an attempt to find out a social media user went on Reddit to try to get some answers.
They wrote: “My question is about the Mcdonald’s drink lids which have the ‘buttons’ on them.
“Just ordered 2 drinks, one diet coke and one coke classic and on one of them had the number ‘1’ button pressed.
“The buttons are the numbers 1 and 2, no caff, diet/light.
“The only one pressed was the number 1. Which one is diet? Should they have just pushed the diet one in?”
One UK-based McDonald’s worker said: “I think most stores is 1 for diet and 2 for zero.”
Another added: “Yeah seems to be different for every store but we usually just push 1 random button for Diet Coke and then either 2 random or all 4 buttons for Coke Zero
“It’s just faster to push random buttons than spend the time to actually find the diet button on every lid I guess.”
A third agreed: “We press 1 for Diet and either two or four for Zero.”
Earlier this month, The Sun Online revealed the three items you should always order at McDonald’s – and the ones you should avoid.
Some people are only now just realising a fan favourite has been discontinued and they’re not happy about it.
Elsewhere, a fan tried McDonald’s new sauces to see if they were worth the hype.
