I was forced to sell my car to cover an £11,000 vet bill after my insurance refused to pay out – my warning to others
A WOMAN has issued a warning to others after claiming that she was forced to sell her car to cover an £11k vet bill when her insurance refused to pay out.
Posting on TikTok under the username ‘maggiepotamus’, she explained just how her tricky situation had unravelled.
The dog lover claims that a pet insurance company left her in the lurch after her furry friend got “very sick”.
She explained that she was a policy holder for three years and she paid every month to make sure her dog was insured.
But as the vet bills rose to a whopping $14,000 (£11,000) she claimed that they refused to pay out despite her being a loyal customer.
At the time, the TikToker says she was forced to sell her car and take out loans on credit cars to save her pup.
And the pet owner added that the market meant she had to sell her motor for “1000 dollars less” than what she originally coughed up.
In a follow-up video she now claims that because “she has a following” on social media the unnamed company “care” about her issue.
TikTokers were quick to comment on her situation with some detailing problems they had with insurance in the past.
One wrote: “I sued a company once. legit, only had 4 phone calls with them and emailed docs. 2 years later I got mailed a 20k check.”
“Oh no!! I have no money and I would do anything for my pups! you are blessed and therefore blessed them,” said another.
A third commented: “I would do ANYTHING for my dogs as well. They are my life.”
It comes as the owners of a pet dog were landed with a £20,000 bill after the pooch was rushed to the vet.
Sabrina, who has a French bulldog called Matisse, says the breed are a “ticking time bomb”.
Earlier this month, a vet revealed his top tips to help save dog owners hundreds of pounds.
