Families and experts demand tougher laws on American bully XL dogs after another horrific death
GRIEVING families and canine experts are demanding tougher laws on American bully XL dogs after yet another death.
They have criticised current rules — saying it is too easy to obtain an XL without any dog-handling training or insight.
Dog behaviour expert Hannah Molloy is appealing to the Government to issue different types of licences for breeds under 30kg and those over 30kg.
She said: “I want to see new licensing so people are charged more to own larger dogs that can do bigger damage — as well as education on handling them.”
Phillip Symes, 64, who lost his son Ian in an attack last year, said: “XLs are bred to kill — they shouldn’t be allowed.”
It comes as the Sun on Sunday reveals Bully XLs — under macho names such as Unstoppable Juggernaut — are being sold without any apparent checks on Facebook, Gumtree and Instagram.
However, the breed was linked to seven deaths in the last year in the UK.
On Thursday night, the latest victim, dad-of-three Jonathan Hogg, 37, died in Leigh, Greater Manchester.
