When did Shannon Canning go missing?
A DESPERATE hunt for Shannon Canning has ended in tragedy after police found body in the search for the missing woman.
Shannon, 24, vanished from her Lancaster home in the early hours of Friday morning, May 19.
Police launched a hunt for the young woman when she did not arrive for work that afternoon.
But five days later on Wednesday, March 24, cops confirmed a body had been found in the search for the young woman.
Who is Shannon Canning?
Shannon Canning is a 24-year-old girl from Lancaster who was declared missing after not showing up to work.
She works at Tipple Bar in Lancashire.
Friends have described her as an “amazing daughter, great sister, a good friend, a hardworking and dedicated colleague”.
When did Shannon Canning go missing?
Shannon was last seen in the early hours of Friday, May 19, 2023.
She was ultimately reported as missing when she didn’t turn up for work that afternoon.
Shannon has not been in contact with any family or friends since leaving home last Friday.
A spokesperson for the bar where Shannon worked: “We are aware of the recent news regarding our colleague and friend, Shannon Canning.
“Tipple will be closed tonight and for the foreseeable.
“We kindly ask that you do not message us, comment, or post on our page regarding Shannon for the time being.
“We ask that you allow us some privacy and give us space process everything.
“Our thoughts are with Shannon’s family at this awful time. Thank you for understanding.”
What have Lancashire Police said?
Lancashire Police said a body had been found at around 4.20pm in the River Lune on Wednesday, May 23, 2023.
Formal identification has not yet taken place but the police believe it to be Shannon.
The cause of death has not been death established.
A search had been carried out by divers from the North West Underwater Search Unit assisted by the fire and rescue service and area search team.
The deceased body was determined to be a female.
A Lancashire Police statement said: “You may have seen a large police presence in Lancaster this afternoon and we want to give you an update as to why.
“We can confirm that we were called today (May 24) at around 4:20pm to a report that a body had been found in the River Lune, near Halton.
“Specialist search teams have subsequently attended the area and can sadly confirm that the body of a woman has been recovered.
“Although formal identification has yet to take place, we believe the body to be that of missing Shannon Canning.
“Shannon’s family have been made aware of this sad development and our thoughts are with them at this upsetting time.”
