MASTERCHEF judge John Torode was left disgusted during the latest episode of the cookery competition as the hopeful chefs were forced to partake in a bizarre challenge.

The BBC One contest continued with the contenders all faced with one of the wackiest challenges the programme had ever seen.

As the episode kicked off, judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode informed the hopefuls that the brief of what they had to cook was “so wrong it’s right”.

The MasterChef contestants had to club together meals with ingredients that shouldn’t work well together on paper but that they thought would work once actually put together.

The announcement of the challenge immediately left viewers perplexed as they insisted that challenge was created to make the judges “gag”.

Writing online, one fan said: “This like a bushtucker trial… we just need @antanddec to pop up.”

Another added: “They’re really struggling to create new challenges aren’t they.”

As a third commented: “Is the brief… ‘make something revolting’.”

Amongst some of the unique combinations were anchovies and ice cream, fish and pineapple as well as carrot puree and pistachio cream.

Whilst some of the surprise combinations proved to be an unexpected hit, John was left particularly unhappy with contestant Terri and her offering.

Terri had made a shortcrust mushroom tart topped with a gruyere bechamel sauce, shaved truffle and a confit egg yolk, with a pickled mushroom and broad been salad and served with chocolate sauce.

Whilst John praised certain elements of Terri’s dish, he was left flabbergasted at her decision to include chocolate sauce as he raged: “It just doesn’t work for me!”

He told her: “A sauce, to me, brings a dish together.

“What we’ve got here is a complete dish already.

“It doesn’t need a sauce.”

However, it caused disagreement between the judges as Gregg Wallace insisted he loved all the elements.

Reflecting on the comments, a sad Terri said: “I was a little disappointed they didn’t think the flavours went together as well as I did.”
