IT’S the hot new trend sweeping the globe and has the world’s most famous doll at its heart.

Taking inspiration from the upcoming Barbie movie, celebrities from Kim Kardashian to Amanda Holden and Lewis Hamilton are feeling in the pink, making bold statements with super-bright bikinis, power suits and leggings.

And Royals are embracing the hue too, with guests including Princess Eugenie and the Duchess of Edinburgh rocking the look at the King’s Coronation.

This week the Duchess of Cambridge was out in two pink outfits, at the Foundling Museum in central London and the Chelsea Flower Show.

Hailed as Barbiecore fashion, the trend has been gaining momentum since the first images of actress Margot Robbie as the Mattel legend emerged last year.

And following the release of the trailer in April, online searches for pink outfits have leapt 78 per cent, according to fashion shopping platform Lyst.

Nick Drewe, trend expert at discounts website WeThrift says: “It looks that the Barbiecore trend will continue to surge and be the hottest (and pinkest) one for summer 2023, following the much anticipated release of the Barbie movie in July.”

Colour counsellor Jules Standish from Colourconsultancy.co.uk tells The Sun: “Pantone, the world leader in trends, chose Viva magenta as their colour of the year for 2023 and the Barbiecore trend is massive.

“Pink is a softer version of the passionate, outgoing red and is more romantic. It is a very compassionate, nurturing, caring colour.

“In its stronger shades it is empowering, individual and very feminine, but it also means business.

“It’s that strength of colour that really stands out. The paler shades are more innocent, girly, but still playful, so pink is a really useful shade in making a statement.

“In recent years, sales of pink shirts for men have gone up exponentially so it has become a shade that crosses all boundaries and all genders.

“We no longer have this association that blue is for boys, pink is for girls.

“It is the colour of love, so anyone can wear it. It embraces care, love, kindness and compassion for ourselves and for others.”
