BBC Breakfast host Charlie Stayt in awkward clash with Saturday Kitchen’s Matt Tebbutt
BBC BREAKFAST host Charlie Stayt today had an awkward clash with Saturday Kitchen’s Matt Tebbutt
It came after presenter Charlie 60, made a startling food confession.
Every weekend BBC Breakfast does a live link up with Matt in the Saturday Kitchen studio, to find out what is coming up on his show.
It is usually Naga Muchetty, 48, who gets into a funny exchange with the TV chef, 49, but as she was off today, it was Charlie’s turn.
Matt and the BBC Breakfast host had a rather awkward, just equally funny, debate about mashed potato.
Naga’s fill in host Rachel Burden started it off when she told the Saturday Kitchen host: “So Matt I heard an extradentary statement from Charlie this morning that he’s done with mashed potato!”
Matt then asked Charlie: “So you’re done with it? It’s just out of your life?”
An awkward looking Charlie then said: “Do you know what? I wasn’t really expecting this to become a topic of discussion but now we’re into it, I just feel like I don’t need it in my life anymore!.”
Matt then replied: “So you’re just over it?”
To which an even more awkward Charlie replied: “Let me be clear Matt, I’m not anti mash potato!”
Matt then joked: “Do you think you could get cancelled for not liking mash potato?”
Charlie then laughed and said: “I don’t know where this is going! It’s taking on a whole dimension!”
Then referring to Charlie being “cancelled” for not liking mashed potato, Matt said: “Well I could try!”
Both studios then started to laugh, and Charlie took it all very well.
It’s usually Naga, who has a cheeky exchange with Matt, and last week had viewers’ in stitches when she poked fun at his flamboyant new look.
During this morning’s live link up with Saturday Kitchen, Matt showed off his new shirt which had big pink flamingos on it – which was a change to his usual formal look.
Naga immediately took aim, and asked him what was on his shirt, to which he explained he had been mocked by his co-workers for it, with one colleague asking him if he was “having a mid-life crisis”.
She then teased: “Well it’s in stark contrast to the usual dark blue, which I think you must have about thirty of them (shirts)!”
Before adding with a grin: “You’re moving out of your comfort zone, it’s good to see Matt! Keep it expanding!”
But Matt took it well, and then said it was “better” than the one he had on last week for Eurovision.
BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One and iPlayer.
