Phil Bianchi, the founder of olive oil and balsamic vinegar retailer The Gift of Oil, has explained how to keep any cut succulent and help it stand up to charcoal flames.

The secret is a marinade made from olive oil and lemon mix that boosts the meat’s natural flavour while preventing it from going dry.

Phil told The Mirror: “Often, when cooking on the BBQ, the meat can dry out very quickly. A simple, yet effective, trick to stop this from happening is to find an empty spray bottle in your house.

“Clean it out, and fill it up with lemon juice or lemon-infused olive oil to really give it the extra moisture and flavour.

“Applying this over the meat will not only keep it moist but also elevate the flavour.”

While olive oil is often seen as more expensive, 500ml bottles are on shelves for as little as £2 and buying in bulk can see an even bigger saving by volume.

He also suggested adding herbs to your coals to “up your grilling game” and wow your guests, though he recommended using fresh herbs rather than dried.

The expert also provided tips on how to give a side salad some pazzazz and bring “restaurant quality” food to your table.

He advised: “Get some infused balsamic to really enhance your salad.

“Whether you love sweet or spicy, just a simple drizzle over salads will make a BBQ buffet go from basic to boujee.”

Finally, he suggested a neat twist in presentation that can help home cooks grill in style.

He said: “BBQs might not always be about presentation, but there’s no reason why you can’t at least try!

“Put all those condiments, and even the additional toppings for burgers, skewers and salads into a muffin tin.

“This not only looks fancy for your guests, but it’s also a great way to organise them all.”

It comes after one BBQ expert revealed the seven most common grilling mistakes Brits make.
