Boy, 15, missing and teen, 14, fighting for life after going for swim with friends in river as desperate search launched
A SCHOOLBOY is missing after he and his friends got into difficulty while swimming in their local river.
Fire crews confirmed that a desperate search effort has been launched while another boy, aged 14, remains in “critical condition”.
Emergency services were called to the River Eden, Cumbria, at around 6.41pm yesterday after reports that the group were in peril.
The younger boy was airlifted to hospital, while the older is yet to be found.
Two other teens managed to escape the water, authorities confirmed.
One was able to swim to safety while the other was rescued by a heroic member of the public.
Both have since been evaluated by medical professionals.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service were called to the River Eden, Carlisle, regarding four teenage males that were reported to have got into difficulty in the river.
“One male, aged 15, remains missing as agencies continue their efforts to locate him.
“The operation is being supported by a number of search and rescue teams.
“One male, aged 14, has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.”
