I’m a female welder – guys say I shouldn’t be in a trade and should find something more feminine, they’re such losers
A FEMALE welder has given short shrift to guys who say she shouldn’t be in the trade.
They say this blue-collar business is not a place for women.
Instead, they have suggested she should find something altogether more feminine.
But Kenz (@hagankenz) considers men with such dated views as losers.
It’s a dirty, sweaty, and hot business, and someone’s got to do it, so why not a woman she said.
She certainly has generated a lot of interest in her career as a welder.
At the last count, she had over 60,000 followers and another 1.9 million likes on her TikTok.
In her video, she shared some of the statements she’s had to endure.
Posted from her workshop, with a colleague standing statue-like behind her, she captioned her screen with one of the typical comments she has heard.
“You shouldn’t be in a trade, you’re a girl. Do something more feminine,” it said.
But Kenz looked like she was not about to take their advice.
She was dressed ready for action for a day’s welding, complete with a safety jacket and face mask pushed up onto the top of her head.
This lady is one of a growing minority of young women forging their paths into once male-dominated industries.
The comments to her post suggested there were a lot of men in the trades who welcomed women like Kenz with open arms young into their industry.
“We have female fitters, boilies, and sparkies at my work. Never had a problem with it,” said one guy.
Another said to ignore the detractors: “They are just weak men and women who are jealous, don’t listen to them.”
Finally, some wisdom from this commenter.
“Do what makes you happy. Don’t live your life to please other people. It’s your life to do what you want,” they said.
