I transformed my yellow patio slabs on a budget – it’s the best £35 I’ve ever spent and transformed my garden
COMPLETELY changing your patio can be an expensive job, that’s why one DIY whizz decided to revamp her boring yellow patio on a budget.
Although there was nothing technically wrong with the old concrete slabs, the homeowner, who posts on social media as @greyobsessedhouse, knew she could improve it.
She bought a tub or Dulux masonry paint for just £35 and got to work transforming the space.
Posting on TikTok, she showed what the patio looked like before her DIY job – the concrete slabs looked weathered and didn’t match the theme for the rest of the garden.
She explained: “Two years ago I decided I was going to paint my patio, the yellow slabs looked awful and I didn’t want to spend thousands in new grey slabs!
“I had many people saying ‘don’t do it, you’ll regret it, it will peel’.
“Do I have any regrets? Absolutely not! Was the best £35 I’ve spent and completely transformed my garden.”
The DIY whizz started off with a medium sized paintbrush to coat the edges of the concrete slabs, before using a roller “for better coverage.”
It only took two coats of the grey paint for the patio to look totally different, and it was a mega easy job to do, the homeowner explained.
She added: “The paint has long lasting protection with a dirt resistant paint film, is rainproof, had UV protection and mould and algae protection.”
After letting the paint dry, the results were pretty impressive and other DIY fans were even inspired to spruce up their own gardens.
One commented: “Looks great! I’m looking for a concrete colour for my garden walls!”
A second said: “Looks fab!”
And someone else quipped: “Good job.”
Meanwhile, some people were concerned she’d have to repaint the patio every year, but she assured them it’s held up great so far.
“I haven’t redone it since it was painted two years ago,” she said.
“It’s lasted really well.”
