Carol McGiffin slams ‘fake’ Phillip Schofield as Loose Women star says he didn’t deserve a big send-off
CAROL McGiffin has blasted Phillip Schofield as “fake”, insisting he didn’t deserve a big send-off from This Morning.
The Loose Women star, 63, said it would have been “pure self-indulgence” to give him a ‘best bits’ show after 21 years on the famous sofa.
Phillip, 61 — who was last week axed from This Morning — originally left over a growing feud with pal and co-star Holly Willoughby.
His departure was also fuelled by his brother Tim being outed as a peado.
Just six days later, he made a bombshell revelation about a “consensual on-off relationship” with a toyboy lover who worked on This Morning – leaving him no choice but to quit ITV altogether.
She wrote in her Best magazine column: “Personally, I hate all that fake schmaltz with everyone crying as though someone’s died.
“It’s just a job, for crying out loud. And one that is very well rewarded.
“What’s wrong with just going for a few bevvies with the people you like?
“Why do the audience have to sit through all their ‘best bits’ when I’m pretty sure they don’t care.”
Carol says viewers will carry on watching the show no matter who presents it.
She says despite leaving Loose Women twice she’s never had a ‘tribute’ show, adding: “I’m fine with that because I don’t like goodbyes.”
In a further dig at her former ITV colleague, Carol said she predicted he would leave This Morning.
But she is still waiting to see if the channel appoint “someone people actually like” as his replacement.
She added: “We will see if ITV oblige with the second bit.”
Carol has previously spoken out about Phillip’s behaviour while she was a guest on This Morning.
Asked by GB News host Dan Wootton if Phillip and Holly Willoughby were nice to her while she was on their daytime show, Carol continued: “Phillip was there but he wasn’t very nice to be honest.
“He treated me as though it’s like ‘oh another Loose Woman with another book’ and I kind of get that but it was just like he was so not interested that it was a struggle.
“I was giggling and laughing actually because I couldn’t believe he was being so bloody rude.”
Carol continued to add that while that was her only bad experience with the star, she’d heard a lot of stories about Phillip being “unpleasant to a lot of people.”
