Sevilla vs Roma betting tips
Something’s got to give…
Six-time Europa League winners Sevilla take on Italian heavyweights Roma and manager Jose Mourinho, who remains unbeaten in five continental finals.
It doesn’t seem to matte who manages Sevilla, they simply come alive in this competition.
They’ve won each of their last SIX Europa League finals they’ve reached with the last coming in a 3-2 victory over Inter Milan during the 2019-20 season.
Furthermore, six of the last nine renewals have been won by Spanish clubs courtesy of Villarreal’s penalty win over Manchester United in Poland.
Roma’s trophy cabinet isn’t nearly as full, but they did secure their first major European trophy by beating Feyenoord in the inaugural Europa Conference League final in Tirana last year.
Mourinho has already banked five major UEFA trophies to date and, should Roma win, will become the most decorated manager in the history of European competition. Heritage.
Sevilla have beaten Manchester United and Juventus on their way to the final, while Roma had an easier route having claimed wins over Feyenoord and Bayer Leverkusen.
In addition to glory on the night, the winner will be granted entry to the Champions League, which neither can qualify for through their respective leagues. It’s a big one.
Seven…
Sevilla have been here before. Quite a few times, actually. And that really is worth its weight in gold on tense nights like these.
It’s been a fairly miserable season for the Spanish side, who will in all likelihood finish in the bottom half of LaLiga for the first time since their relegation in 1999/2000.
But they live for nights like these. Many thought they were dead and buried when trailing Manchester United with six minutes to play at Old Trafford in the quarter finals.
We all know what happened that night, and their subsequent extra-time win over Juventus. They’ve suffered just two losses in their last 15 games and have scored 2+ goals in nine of those.
Roma appear to have thrown the towel in on their Serie A campaign with Mourinho having made sweeping changes for their latest 2-1 defeat to Fiorentina over the weekend.
The squad will be fresh but they have struggled on the road in the Europa League, failing to win their last four and failing to register a single goal.
This game will be the 14th time a Spanish side has faced an Italian team in the final of a major European competition, with the Spanish side being crowned champions on nine of the previous 13 occasions, including each of the last three.
First goalscorer…
Youssef En-Nesyri. He’s by far the biggest threat in this Sevilla squad having netted 18 goals and provided two assists in 47 appearances in all competitions.
33 per cent of the Moroccan’s goals have arrived in European competition with two in the Champions League and four in the Europa League – and interestingly four of those have been as first goalscorer.
He won the La Liga player of the month award in April and was rested for Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid.
Seeing red…
Big night. Big match. Big emotions.
That combination can often lead to dismissals, and these two sides seem to specialise in that – especially Sevilla.
Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side have been shown nine red cards in the league this season, and there’s been at least one dismissal in each of their last four matches, including the Juventus semi-final.
No LaLiga side has been shown more yellows and reds than Sevilla, while only three sides have been more red cards than Roma in Serie A.
Anthony Taylor will officiate on Wednesday, and has shown 172 cards in 43 games this season, giving him an average of four cards per match. He was in charge for Roma’s clash with Feyenoord earlier in the competition, and showdown eight yellows and a red.
