I was left screaming in agony after hot tarmac used to fill a seaside pothole melted the skin on my bare feet

A TEACHER needed hospital treatment for scalded feet after treading in hot tarmac used to fill a seaside pothole.

Sally Hamilton, 57, walked barefoot on to a beach promenade to brush off her sandy feet.

But she was left in agony when she stepped across the tarmac — which workers had left without a fence around it.

She screamed, jumped off and tried walking on the side of her feet to go meet a friend.

 But she was taken to hospital when they realised the hot tar had melted skin and become embedded in her soles.

 The freshly filled pothole was subsequently fenced off — but Sally’s footprints remain in it in Bournemouth, Dorset.

She spent two hours with her feet in cold water before medics covered them in bandages.

Sally had been walking her dog when the incident happened on Friday.

She said: “I took two or three steps and suddenly everything felt like it was in slow motion. I couldn’t get off the tarmac fast enough.

“It was early in the day, before the sun was hot enough to be blamed for the heat of the tarmac. Hours later my feet were still hot.”

Sally, is considering a compensation claim, She said: “I’ve had to cancel everything to sit around.”

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole council said: “We’re sorry to hear of Ms Hamilton’s situation. We’ve been in contact with her and are looking into the details.”
