I’m a pest control expert – my £2.60 hack will banish flies from your home in seconds
FLIES can be banished from your home in seconds – thanks to a simple £2.60 hack.
And all you need are two common household items, according to a pest control expert.
Jordan Foster from Fantastic Pest Control said essential oils dripped onto cotton balls will work wonders in eliminating the winged insects.
Speaking to The Express, he explained: “The strong scent of essential oils such as peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, and citronella repels flies.
“Using these oils in diffusers, sprays, or soaking cotton balls and placing them in areas where flies are a nuisance will help eliminate them.”
Boots sell 100 cotton balls for £1.38 while peppermint and lavender oil can be bought for just £2.25 on Amazon.
Eucalyptus oil is £1.79 on eBay while popular bug-repellent citronella ranges from £1.45 for a 10ml bottle of oil at Online Pound Shop to £11.79 for a 750ml spray bottle on Amazon.
But that’s not the only repellent Brits can reach for when the buzzing gets unbearable.
Jordan says white vinegar works just as well when mixed with water and sprayed onto surfaces – stopping flies from lingering.
Wilko sells a 1L bottle of white vinegar for a bargain £1.25, mix it with water in an old spray bottle and the flies wont know what’s hit them.
Planting lavender, marigolds and even strong scented herbs in your garden can also act as a permanent solution to batting flies away from your home.
The smell of herbs and spices, including basil, mint, rosemary, and cloves, repel flies with their strong aromas.
As well cheap natural hacks, one Tik Tokker claims you can even fend off the winged pests with a disco ball.
Nicola Lewis said flies hate reflective light and stay away from the glitter ball.
Conventional deterrents such as fly nets, sticky pads and bug zappers also work wonders when you’re flying high with anger at the little nuisances.
