Boy, 14, dies suddenly after tragic incident at school as emergency crews race to scene
A TEENAGER has suddenly died following an incident at a Scots school.
Emergency services raced to St Kentigern’s Academy near Bathgate, in West Lothian, at lunchtime yesterday.
Officers also scrambled to the area after the alarm was raised between 12pm and 1pm.
The incident took place within the grounds of the school, it has been confirmed.
Medics worked to save the young lad and he was rushed to hospital.
However, he tragically died a short time later.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.20pm on Tuesday, 6 June, 2023, officers were called to a report of concern for a 14-year-old boy at a school in the Bathgate area.
“He was taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment, but died a short time later.
“His family have been informed and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the death.”
The school was formerly attended by Scottish singing superstar Lewis Capaldi.
A statement from St Kentigern’s Academy read: “We can confirm that emergency services were called to St Kentigern’s Academy earlier today following an isolated incident within the school grounds.
“All parents of pupils directly affected have been contacted and we are assisting the relevant authorities with their ongoing enquiries.
“We have set up emotional support and signposting for students affected by today’s incident and are unable to comment further at this time due to an ongoing police investigation”.
Locals told of their shock on social media after hearing the tragic news.
One person said: “Absolutely heartbreaking. You don’t expect to send your child to school and not have him return home.”
Another added: “Sending love and strength to this wee boys family. I cannot begin to imagine broken they must feel!”
Someone else posted: “How heartbreaking. I can’t even think of any words. So tragic.”
While a fourth wrote: “Absolutely devastating, my thoughts go out to this young boys family. Can’t imagine the pain they must feel.”
A local church has also taken to social media to ask the community to keep the young boy in their prayers.
St John the Baptist Parish Church Fauldhouse said: “Can you please keep the family and friends of the young S3 pupil who sadly passed away after an incident at St Kentigerns Academy in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.”
