British Soap Awards hit with fix row as fans blast ‘rigged’ ceremony for favouring Coronation Street
THE British Soap Awards has been hit with a fix row as fans have blasted the ‘rigged’ ceremony for favouring Coronation Street.
Soap fans tuned into the awards show which aired last night on ITV1.
It was hosted by Jane McDonald who stepped in at the last minute following Phillip Schofield’s resignation from ITV.
Jane was given a warm welcome by the soap stars from the likes of Emmerdale, EastEnders and Coronation Street.
The ceremony saw Corrie come out on top as the show walked away with six awards.
Gongs they scooped included Best Single Episode, Scene of the Year and Best Dramatic Performance.
However, viewers have taken aim at the wins and branded the entire awards a ‘fix’.
Taking to social media, they blasted the show and pointed out how the Soap Awards and Coronation Street are both ITV shows.
One said: “These soap awards are rigged. This girl in pink from Corrie is behaving in a way that takes all seriousness away from any storylines she may have been in.”
A second wrote: “Watching the #SoapAwards and some of this is definitely rigged by ITV!”
“@BBCeastenders are being robbed here. People do not understand the impact of brain tumours. #BritishSoapAwards,” said a third.
A fourth commented: “Unpopular opinion but a neutral channel should get the soap awards so it 100 percent can’t be rigged.”
The Soap Awards is available to stream now on ITVX.
