Antiques Roadshow guest ‘faints’ after valuation of Rolex watch is revealed
AN ANTIQUES Roadshow guest “fainted” after finding out the jaw-dropping valuation of a Rolex watch he had.
A new batch of guests appeared on the BBC show, bringing their prized possessions to be examined and assessed.
A visitor brought a Rolex watch to be looked at by the antiques expert.
He explained that he bought the watch by mail order for $345.97 over 40 years ago.
The owner purchased the watch after discovering that the watches were excellent for scuba diving.
A Rolex now costs between £7,500 and £55,000, with certain limited edition models costing considerably higher.
The guest revealed he had kept the watch in its box for decades and decided not to wear it while swimming.
It still had the original paperwork and a reference number on the back.
Peter used the reference number which read, 6263 to find out the date of the item – and he discovered it was rare.
The expert told the owner that his watch was “unique” because it said Oyster on it.
Rolex only put that on their watches for a limited amount of time and it’s known as a “mark two dial”.
He then revealed that the Rolex could get around £400,000 at an auction and the owner was left speechless.
The guest then pretended to fall on the floor and faint.
Peter said: “Don’t fall, I’m not done yet…”
Because the watch hadn’t been worn before the antiques specialist revealed it could even fetch between $500,000 – $700,000 which left everyone shocked.
It was unclear whether the guest intended to sell the watch.
