Chilling moment student carries drunk young woman to his flat before raping her and taking ‘trophy photograph’
THIS is the chilling moment a student carried a drunk young woman to his flat before raping her and taking a ‘trophy photograph’.
Preet Vikal, 20, pleaded guilty to the attack in Cardiff and was sentenced to six years and nine months at a young offenders institution yesterday.
The victim read a statement at Vikal’s sentencing and said she did not want to go on nights out for five months after the rape.
She said: “It was really difficult to pretend I was okay when I wasn’t.”
She said: “I now have a boyfriend and every little thing had to be discussed.
“Even little things like putting his hand on my leg. Even though I would want him to, I would recoil and wouldn’t be ready to.”
The victim was “hopelessly intoxicated” after going to a bar on Mill Lane and then to Live Lounge, Cardiff Crown Court heard.
She left Live Lounge with her friends before the engineering student joined her group as they walked along North Road.
CCTV footage played in court revealed Vikal carrying the victim in his arms and also over his shoulders at 4am on June 3 last year.
The pair passed Blackweir pub and the victim was leaning heavily on Vikal.
Prosecutor Matthew Cobbe said the university student brought the victim to his room at Talybont, despite the victim being unable to give consent.
He took a “trophy photograph” of her on his bed which was revealing but she was not naked.
The victim remembered waking up naked next to Vikal but did not know where she was or that she had been raped.
The victim reported Vikal on the same day to the police and he was arrested.
“She was bleeding. She found her clothes folded, got out of bed and got dressed,” Mr Cobbe said in court, according to WalesOnline.
“The victim asked for the defendant’s Instagram address and once she left, she messaged him asking him if they had had sex, and if so, whether they had used protection.
“The answer she had was that yes, they had, but they had not used protection.”
