My 12-year-old wanted a nose piercing so I did it for her – but the school called immediately & I was mum-shamed for it
A MUM who pierced her 12-year-old daughter’s nose found herself shamed by other parents for doing so.
After daughter Ruby asked her for a nose piercing, Tink agreed that she could have one if she hit a certain number of views on TikTok.
That wasn’t a problem at all, and after Ruby went above and far beyond the number Tink had picked, her mum got started with the piercing.
Ruby didn’t even flinch as the piercing was done, but the comments section on the TikTok was quickly filled with people weighing in, with many wondering just what the young girl’s school would make of her new accessory.
Tink responded in another TikTok, as she said: “I did get a phone call from the school today, which we knew was going to happen.
“The teacher did stop Ruby and say they’ve got a no face piercing rule at the school so we need to abide by it.
“But the head of Year 7 did ring me and we have come to a compromise.
“I said that for the next 3/4 weeks, Ruby will wear a little plaster over her nose to cover it up, and then while it’s healing in the summer holidays, I will buy her a see-through bar that she can wear at school in Year 8. S
“So it’s not that bad.
“We did get told off – we did get a slap on the wrist and she was told that she wasn’t allowed to any lessons until they’d spoken to me.
“But when we spoke to them, and I said that I’d compromise, everything was ok.”
The school wasn’t the only place to have a problem with Ruby’s piercing though.
Tink also found some people commenting on the video were mum-shaming her for her decision to allow Ruby to have the piercing.
“Wow, what an amazing mum… not!” one person wrote.
“I’m not quite sure where this comment’s come from,” Tink responded in a third TikTok video.
“In the sense of calling me out like that.
“In a world where schools are struggling to deal with bullies, and kids are getting picked on for anything possible – their teeth, their ears, their eyes, their height… they get bullied for absolutely everything.
“If my child has come to me asking to have something done that makes her feel good about herself, in a place that’s so horrible, that’s why I done it.
“She wanted that to make herself feel good, so I done it for her.
“It’s come from a place of love and it’s come from a place of want for her to go to school feeling confident and not worrying about bullies saying anything else.
“So thanks for your comment but her nose is doing really well, and it really suits her.”
“Nobody should’ve said that to you you are a great mum,” someone commented on that video.
As another added: “who would call somebody’s mum not amazing!! i don’t think they know how hurtful that can be! x”
And a third wrote: “You’re an amazing mam everyone is different you are just trying to make your child’s life better and make the school a better place to go to.”
