Antiques Roadshow fans floored by guest’s response as he learns whopping value skateboard picked up for fiver
ANTIQUES Roadshow fans have been left floored by a guest’s response after he learned the value of a $5 skateboard.
During an episode of the American version of the hit BBC One show, a man brought his skateboard to be valued.
He revealed on the programme that he purchased the item for just a fiver.
Presenting the fibreglass board to expert Travis Landry, the man revealed he had been riding it for six years.
Speaking about why he purchased it, the guest said: “I could tell right away that that looked like it might be a good one and it was!”
And he’s not wrong as Travis revealed: “This board has such a legacy because this is the first type of skateboard Tony Hawk ever skated on.
“He was given the board as a hand-me-down from his brother.
“His childhood started on a Bahne fibreglass-moulded board, only difference Tony Hawk‘s was a blue-green board.
“This is clearly orange.”
Without the original wheels, Landry estimated it to be worth between $200 to $400 – equal to approximately £157 to £314.
Taken aback by the news, the guest responded: “Whoa, what?
“That’s like a 6,900% increase on my original cost… that’s, that’s awesome!
“Papa’s gonna get a brand new bag, I will tell you what!”
However, viewers were quick to notice how the man had made an error with his calculations.
Taking to social media, one said: “Dude was right in the percentage area — anywhere from 3,900% to 7,000%.”
A second wrote: “The dude literally nailed the math at 6,900% profit.”
“That is one funny, nerdy guy! I love it,” said a third.
